What file format do you need for production?

Answer:

Files we accept are:
The best files to send in are (.eps)
Corel Draw X4 and below (.cdr)
Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop CS5 and below (.ai)
JPEG, BMP, TIF, GIF are not advisable for production, and can incur design fees.
Files created in Word, Excel, Publisher and other “free” programs are not production ready and will incur additional art fees

It is best to always convert fonts to lines or curves to ensure proper layout of typestyles. We cannot feasably have all fonts available.

For Digital Printing, some TIF and BMP files are ok, as long as the resolution is high enough quality for each application. Please contact us to learn the best way to capture your digital files for large format reproduction.

What is the difference between raster and vector artwork?

Answer:

Raster based artwork such as photos, or flattened artwork (from Photoshop) are made up of tiny squares (pixels) and depending on your resolution and/or final output size desired, the file could have a low quality end result known as pixelation. All raster elements should have a high enough resolution (DPI) before considering them for your large format product.

Vector based artwork such as illustrations or line art elements (Adobe Illustrator and Corel Draw)  are made with mathematical calculations, and can be scaled up to any size without losing quality. Keep in mind that any effects used in Illustrator are raster based and have transparency – this greatly adds to file size and you must have correct settings in your “Document Raster Effects Settings” to ensure best output for these effects. If you’re doing a photo-quality print on a 48″ x 72″ sign, and leave the raster effects settings at default 72 DPI – you may see pixelation in your drop shadows, as opposed to a smooth shadow. Always convert all fonts to lines as we cannot feasably have all fonts available.

What are Design Fees?

Answer:

If a file is sent to us in a format that is unsuitable for reproduction we will let you know. Vector “EPS” file types are the best for production.

Not all digital files are created equal. If the artwork is in any other form than a vector based format without any line manipulation needed, there will usually be a Design Time Fee involved. You will be notified at the time of artwork submission. All photos and artwork submitted may require an extra form be completed granting Wildside Graphix LLC permission to use the submitted artwork or photo.

Scanning of a business card does not give us your logo, we spend time recreating your logo into a vector based format for production. This fee will only be charged the first time the logo has to be created.

Are the colors on my screen the same as the print colors?

Answer:

Monitor callibration is subjective and sometimes unpredictable.

CRT monitors, LCD monitors, and LED monitors all have differences in color accuracy. For the the best results of the color you will receive, we have color charts and sometimes will provide samples for sensitive color matching issues.

RGB and CMYK values are sometimes difficult to match, however we use a Color Conversion chart from Pantone (R) for best results.

Pantone(R) Color Matching System numbers can be given as a target reference, but note that sometimes different printing techniques and substrates will affect the output. We will assist you in matching your colors as close as possible. Depending on your monitor calibration, these colors may or may not show accurately.

How can I avoid transparency issues?

Answer:

Any transparency issue can be resolved before saving your file.

To prevent this, never use shadows, glows, or any other transparency (image or otherwise) on top of a spot color. Always convert your spot color to CMYK and flatten before sending any artwork to Wildside.

How visible will my sign be?

Answer:

We design all our signs for the space allowed, keeping legibility, colors and distance in the front of our minds during the design process. For instance, a sign which is intended to be viewed up close will have a different layout than a sign being viewed while driving 60 mph. We always make sure your sign performs the best it can for its given task.

Do I own the design of the sign and can I use it elsewhere?

Answer:

No. We retain rights to the sign design work unless we specifically release the artwork, but we will discuss that at the time you place the order.

We do offer Logo Design services that you would retain all rights too during the process, remember a sign design is not a logo design. They have to different needs and uses.
